The concept for Boorna Waanginy began in early 2015 after Nigel Jamieson (Boorna Waanginy Director) and Wendy Martin (Perth Festival Artistic Director 2016 - 2019) went on a walk around Kings Park guided by Dr Richard Walley, Walley highlighting the Six Seasons and the Noongar relationship with plant species in the park.

The next day, we were brought to the iconic Kings Park and Botanic Garden — one of the must-visit places in Perth. Here, the Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak took place — a multi-sensorial display of sound and light amid the trees and landscape of the park. It was as though the park was made for the theatrics of this installation.
